Recipe Scaler

Resize a whole ingredient list when a recipe serves too many—or not enough—people. Enter your servings and keep the original units.

Calculate now

Use decimals, fractions such as 1/2, mixed numbers such as 1 1/2, or ½. Keep each ingredient’s original unit. This tool changes quantities, not units or cooking time.

Up to 50 ingredients. Edit the examples to match your recipe.

Enter your values, then calculate.

Inputs stay in this browser. We record only an anonymous “tool used” event, never your values.

How it works

Each new quantity = original quantity × wanted servings ÷ original servings. Enter fractions such as 1/2 or 1 1/2 as well as decimals. Scaling does not convert between units or change cooking time. Results use common exact fractions where possible, otherwise up to six decimal places or scientific notation for very small quantities.

Three practical tips

  • Scale spices conservatively and adjust to taste.
  • Cooking vessel size and timing may also need to change.
  • Repeat the same serving ratio for every ingredient.

Can every ingredient be scaled linearly?

Most can, but seasoning, leavening and cooking time sometimes need judgement rather than a strict multiplier.
